On July 20, 2026, the Texas Department of Insurance (TDI) issued Commissioner’s Bulletin #B-0006-26 regarding working with policyholders affected by severe storms and flooding. Among other provisions, the TDI expects insurers to suspend policy vacancy provisions as long as reasonably necessary for displaced policyholders. Additionally, insurers should implement a grace period for policyholders who need more time to pay premiums. This grace period may include minimizing charges for late payments or temporarily suspending payment plans. Furthermore, insurers are expected to assist in educating consumers about disaster relief programs and loss reporting.
