On March 21, 2025, the Arkansas Insurance Department (AID) released Bulletin No. 06-2025 to issue a moratorium following severe storms and tornadoes in the state.
On March 15, 2025, Governor Sanders declared a state of emergency following the severe weather. In response, the AID has issued a 60-day moratorium on the cancellation and nonrenewal of personal lines policies for the non-payment of premiums. The moratorium applies to all policies issued that cover risks in adversely impacted areas. Policyholders must request the extension, but insurers are encouraged to contact their policyholders in affected areas and work with them in providing relief. If an insurer receives an extension request, the 60-day moratorium period becomes effective on March 15, 2025, the date of the issuance of the state of emergency.
Please see Bulletin No. 06-2025 for more information. For any questions regarding the bulletin, please contact the AID at 501-371-2600 or insurance.consumers@arkansas.gov.
