On November 14, 2024, the California Department of Insurance (CDI) issued [Bulletin 2024-13](https://www.insurance.ca.gov/0250-insurers/0300-insurers/0200-bulletins/bulletin-notices-commiss-opinion/upload/Bulletin-2024-13-Moratorium-Mountain-Fire-Declaration.pdf) to all admitted and non-admitted insurers in the state, mandating a moratorium on the cancellation and nonrenewal of residential property insurance following the emergency declaration due to the Mountain Fire.

 

No insurer should issue a notice of cancellation or nonrenewal due to wildfire risk for one year, starting on **November 7, 2024**. The bulletin provides the ZIP codes to which the moratorium applies. Additionally, insurers must offer to rescind any notices of cancellation or nonrenewal that were issued due to wildfire risk since the emergency declaration proclaimed earlier this month.
