On August 26, 2026, the Hawaii Department of Commerce and Consumer Affairs (DCCA) issued Memorandum 2026-7A following Tropical Storm and Hurricane Lala to provide claims handling expectations.
The DCCA expects insurers to evaluate each claim based on the facts of the loss, apply the policy language as written, and distinguish storm classifications from watches and warnings. Additionally, the memorandum states that insurers should maintain adequate records supporting coverage and deductible determinations.
Please see Memorandum 2026-7A for more information. For any questions regarding the memorandum, please contact the Insurance Division at insurance@dcca.hawaii.gov or call 1-844-808-3222.
