Kentucky Issues Advisory Opinion Following Severe Storms in Certain Counties

May 23, 2025 / by AAIS

On May 20, 2025, the Kentucky Department of Insurance released an Advisory Opinion following severe storms on May 16 and 17, 2025, in Laurel, Pulaski, Russell, and Clay Counties.

The advisory opinion gives guidance to insurers regarding the relief and accommodations they may be providing insureds in the counties affected by the storms. This includes extending time periods for the payment of premiums and refraining from canceling and nonrenewing policies. Any insurers intending to offer extensions should advise the Department by sending an email or letter to the addresses provided in the advisory opinion. Additionally, if an insurer is sending an unlicensed adjuster to the state, the insurer needs to fill out a Form 8307 on the Department's website to get them registered.

Please see the Advisory Opinion for more information. For any questions regarding the advisory opinion, please contact Shaun Orme at 502-564-1698.
