Louisiana has enacted [House Bill 1117](https://www.legis.la.gov/legis/ViewDocument.aspx?d=1481507) which, among other provisions, amends how certain insurer actions affect a claim's prescriptive period. The bill clarifies that an insurer’s payment under the terms of certain policies is not considered acknowledgement of a debt and does not extend the prescriptive period. Additionally, if an insurer issues an unconditional payment for certain homeowner policy claims, the bill requires the insurer to provide written notice to the claimant that the payment does not affect the claim’s prescriptive period.
