On May 16, 2025, the Maryland Insurance Administration (MIA) issued Bulletin 25-8 regarding the cancellations of insurance policies following Governor Wes Moore's Executive Order 01.01.2025.12, which declared a state of emergency for Allegany and Garrett Counties.

The bulletin states that, to avoid cancellations for personal automobile, homeowners, other personal lines, and commercial lines of insurance, the MIA requires that insurers provide reasonable accommodations, including a grace period for premium payment of 60 days, to policyholders in the mentioned counties.

Please see Bulletin 25-8 and Executive Order 01.01.2025.12 for more information. For any questions regarding the bulletin, please contact Patricia Dorn, Associate Commissioner, Consumer Education and Advocacy, at 410-370-7075 or patricia.dorn@maryland.gov
