On August 2, 2024, the Mississippi Insurance Department (MID) issued Bulletin 2024-4 to property and casualty insurers that write homeowners or dwelling coverage in the six coastal counties regarding the adoption of the FORTIFIED standard under the Comprehensive Hurricane Damage Mitigation Program.

The MID is adopting the IBHS FORTIFIED standard as the building standard that will be recognized under the above-mentioned program. The bulletin informs the specified insurers that building to this standard will be required under the program.
