On July 22, 2026, the Mississippi Insurance Department (MID) issued Bulletin 2026-9 setting forth expectations for how insurers certified to do business in the state may use artificial intelligence (AI) technologies in decisions impacting consumers.
Among other provisions, insurers are expected to develop, implement, and maintain a written AI Systems (AIS) Program regarding the responsible use of such systems. The bulletin outlines AIS Program guidelines addressing the insurer’s governance framework, risk management, internal controls, and third-party AI systems and data. Additionally, this bulletin informs insurers about the type of information and documentation the MID may request during an investigation or examination of AI systems. A list of such information and documentation is provided in the bulletin.
