On July 8, 2026, the North Carolina Department of Insurance (NCDOI) issued Bulletin 26-B-07 outlining procedures for catastrophic motor vehicle damage appraisers. Unless carrying proper identification, no motor vehicle damage appraisers will be allowed access to a declared disaster area.
Additionally, NCDOI permits motor vehicle damage appraisers licensed and regularly practicing out-of-state who satisfy certain requirements to perform emergency appraisal work in North Carolina for no longer than 30 days without a North Carolina license. Eligibility qualifications for employers allowed to hire out-of-state appraisers are outlined in the bulletin. When deploying out-of-state appraisers in accordance with this bulletin’s identification protocol, employers must submit a written notification on company letterhead to the NCDOI Licensing Section-Agent Services Division via CATAdjusterRequest@ncdoi.gov (strongly preferred) or fax.
