On April 18, 2025, the Rhode Island Department of Business Regulation released Industry Alert 2025-2 as a reminder of the consumer's free choice of auto repair facilities.

The industry alert clarifies that the insured should be promptly informed by the insurer of their free choice in the selection of an auto body repair shop or licensed motor vehicle glass repair shop. Once the insured advises the insurer of the selection, the insurer may not recommend a different shop.
