Vermont Issues Bulletin Regarding Aerial Imagery

    Sep 9, 2026 / by AAIS

On August 21, 2026, the Vermont Department of Financial Regulation (Department) issued Insurance Bulletin #241 regarding the use of aerial imagery by property and casualty insurers.

The Department is concerned that an aerial image may not always provide a true and accurate representation of the condition of a roof or other aspects of the property. Guidelines have been provided within the bulletin to ensure compliance with Vermont statutes. These guidelines include using an on-site inspection of the property to supplement any inconclusive aerial images, notifying an insured whenever aerial images have been relied upon to nonrenew or cancel a policy, and conducting a reasonable investigation and timely review of any evidence or documentation prior to making a claims decision.
