Wisconsin has enacted Senate Bill 531, which creates new Section 632.11 of the statutes and relates to postloss assignment of rights or benefits under property insurance policies to residential contractors.

Among other provisions, the bill provides certain requirements for the postloss assignment of rights or benefits to residential contractors. The bill states that the assignment should not be construed to prevent an insurer from communicating with the named insured or mortgagee, and that the residential contractor must provide a copy of the executed assignment to the insurer within 5 business days following the date the assignment was executed.
