Georgia Issues Directive Regarding Wildfires

Written by AAIS | Apr 28, 2026

On April 22, 2026, Georgia Governor Brian Kemp issued a State of Emergency for several counties due to active wildfires. On April 23, 2026, the Georgia Department of Insurance issued Directive 26-EX-2 regarding insurers' responsibility to promptly respond to policyholders.

The directive encourages insurers to promptly acknowledge receipt of all wildfire related claims and make appropriate assignments for their investigation. Additionally, the directive states that policyholders should not experience delays in receiving the benefits that they deserve based on the volume of claims filed with a particular insurer.

Please see Directive 26-EX-2 for more information.
