South Carolina has enacted House Bill 3259, which prohibits insurers from considering the work-related driving record of a first responder when determining rates for a personal automobile insurance policy if they are found to be noncontributing on the collision report or involved in a collision when responding to an emergency call. The first responder must furnish a copy of the police incident report, investigative report, or Uniform Traffic Collision report regarding the crash to the insurer or insurance agent.

Oklahoma has enacted Senate Bill 1876 which, among other provisions, requires foreign or alien insurers to appoint the Insurance Commissioner (Commissioner), a resident of the state, or a person authorized to do business in the state as its agent to receive service of legal process, other than a subpoena. Any insurer appointing a registered agent other than the Commissioner must electronically submit the name and address of the agent in the manner prescribed by the Commissioner. This information will be made public, and any changes should be submitted to the Commissioner within five business days of such change.
Michigan Makes Annual Adjustment of an Insured's Maximum Unearned Premium Refund

Georgia Reduces Counties Where Cancellation Ban Applies

On April 23, 2026, the Georgia Office of Commissioner of Insurance and Safety Fire (OCI) issuedDirective 26-EX-1 to prohibit the cancellation of policies for non-payment from policyholders in certain counties affected by the ongoing wildfires. On May 8, 2026, the OCI issued Directive 26-EX-3 to reduce the number of counties to which Directive 26-EX-1 applies. The directive lists the counties in which cancellation for nonpayment of premium is still prohibited.

On April 23, 2026, the Georgia Department of Insurance (Department) issued Directive 26-EX-1 following the issuance of a State of Emergency from Governor Brian Kemp. The directive states that insurance companies across all lines of coverage are not to cancel policies for non-payment from policyholders in certain counties affected by the ongoing wildfire until further advised by the Department. The directive lists all counties in which this applies.
