Georgia Prohibits the Cancellation of Policies for Non-Payment Due to Wildfires

Written by AAIS | May 1, 2026

On April 23, 2026, the Georgia Department of Insurance (Department) issued Directive 26-EX-1 following the issuance of a State of Emergency from Governor Brian Kemp. The directive states that insurance companies across all lines of coverage are not to cancel policies for non-payment from policyholders in certain counties affected by the ongoing wildfire until further advised by the Department. The directive lists all counties in which this applies.
