New Jersey Reminds Private Passenger Automobile Insurers of Policy Limit Disclosures

On May 21, 2024, the New Jersey Department of Banking and Insurance (NJDOBI) released Bulletin No. 24-06 to all New Jersey auto insurers issuing private passenger automobile policies. The bulletin reminds these insurers of their requirement to disclose policy limits upon request by an attorney under certain circumstances, within 30 days.
New Jersey Continues Submissions of Private Passenger Automobile Underwriting Guidelines Changes

On December 29, 2023, the New Jersey Department of Banking and Insurance (NJDOBI) issued Order No. A23-14 and Bulletin No. 23-08 ordering that all authorized and admitted property and casualty insurers that have private passenger automobile policies in force as of December 29, 2023, to continue submitting any changes made to its underwriting guidelines to the Department. Any changes made between the dates of January 1, 2024 and December 31, 2024 need to be submitted to the NJDOBI within five days of implementation.

On November 14, 2022, the New Jersey Department of Banking and Insurance (DOBI) issued Bulletin No. 22-09 regarding compliance with P.L.2022, c.87 (the “Act”), which was enacted through Senate Bill 481 and went into effect on August 5, 2022. The Act amended existing law to increase the minimum limits of liability, uninsured motorist and underinsured motorist insurance coverage that must be provided in automobile insurance policies issued in the state of New Jersey.
