Massachusetts Issues Filing Guidance Notice for Mandatory Flood Exclusion Disclosure

On June 3, 2025, the Massachusetts Division of Insurance issued Filing Guidance Notice 2025-R regarding the submission of new mandatory disclosures relating to flood coverage.
Colorado has enacted House Bill 1207, which, among other provisions, states that insurers may not refuse to issue, cancel, nonrenew, or increase a premium for a commercial policy for multifamily units—or a policy to cover the contents of a structure used for a residence and occupied by an owner or renter—based on the breed or mixture of breeds of a dog at the unit or structure. However, this does not prohibit an insurer from taking such action on the above-mentioned policies based on sound underwriting and actuarial principles on the basis that a particular dog at the unit or structure is known or declared to be dangerous.
Florida Issues Notice to Announce 2025 Catastrophe Reporting Form

On May 29, 2025, the Florida Office of Insurance Regulation issued a Notice to Industry to inform insurers of the 2025 Catastrophe Reporting Form (CRF) in preparation for the Atlantic Hurricane Season, which begins on June 1, 2025.
Georgia has enacted Senate Bill 201, which, among other provisions, states that no insurer should sell homeowners insurance policies that allow for the assignment of proceeds to a contractor within one year of a natural disaster which causes damage to the insured's property.
Maryland has enacted House Bill 1148, stating that if an applicant for residential condominium unit insurance experiences a lapse in coverage due to an insurer withdrawing from the market, then as outlined in the bill, an insurer may not refuse to issue a policy based solely on the applicant's lapse of coverage.

Washington State Enacts Senate Bill 5419

Washington State has enacted Senate Bill 5419, which, among other provisions, adds reporting requirements of an insurer when a claim related to fire loss or damage is closed. Within 90 days of closing such claim, insurers must report to the insurance commissioner, in a manner prescribed by the insurance commissioner to include reporting via a third-party vendor, each fire loss of property reported to the insurer. The bill outlines the minimum information that must be reported.
