On December 15, 2025, the Washington State Office of the Insurance Commissioner (OIC) issued Emergency Order No. 25-01 following Proclamation 25-07 that declared an emergency related to the December Atmospheric River and Winter Weather Event.
The OIC orders all insurers, insurance producers, surplus lines brokers, and other regulated entities transacting any property and automobile insurance business to provide grace periods of no less than 45 days for nonpayment of premium and to waive any associated charges and fees. Additionally, no property and automobile insurer should cancel a policy for nonpayment of premium unless directed by the insured or issue a notice of nonrenewal less than 120 days before the expiration date of the policy. The emergency order will be in effect from December 15, 2025, until February 12, 2026.
