On December 16, 2025, Minnesota Governor Tim Walz issued Executive Order 25-12, directing the Department of Commerce to issue a homeowners insurance data call relating to firearms.

The executive order states, that by February 1, 2026, the Department of Commerce must issue a data call requiring all insurance companies writing homeowners insurance in the state to submit detailed policy and claims data involving firearms.
