Alabama Issues Bulletin Regarding the Use of Aerial Imagery

    Jul 3, 2025 / by AAIS

On June 17, 2025, the Alabama Department of Insurance (ALDOI) issued Bulletin 2025-03 to all insurers writing homeowners and commercial property and casualty insurance regarding the use of aerial imagery.

The bulletin reminds insurers that, if possible, aerial imagery should not be the only information used in the decision-making process for nonrenewals, cancellations, underwriting, claims handling, and similar activities. If an insurer uses aerial imagery as a basis for nonrenewal, it is best practice to notify the property owner of the use of aerial imagery and provide the images to allow the property owner the opportunity to furnish updated information or dispute the accuracy of the images. Additionally, the ALDOI reminds insurers to use updated aerial images as older images may not accurately portray the current condition of the property.

Please see Bulletin 2025-03 for more information. For any questions regarding the bulletin, please contact rates.forms@insurance.alabama.gov.
