On October 24, 2025, the Michigan Department of Insurance and Financial Services (DIFS) issued Bulletin 2025-25-INS, which supersedes Bulletin 2025-19-INS, to address unfair or abusive acts and practices within the claims administration process for automobile insurance.
The DIFS reminds insurers that their claims administration practices must follow the Insurance Code. The bulletin provides examples of improper claims administration practices, particularly for automobile collision and comprehensive coverages. Some of the examples provided include making misrepresentations to claimants during claims administration and failing to make timely payment on claims that are not reasonably in dispute.
