On August 3, 2026, the Washington State Office of the Insurance Commissioner issued Emergency Order No. 26-01 requiring all property and automobile insurers in the state to provide relief to consumers from the 2026 wildfires.
Between August 3, 2026, and September 30, 2026, property and automobile insurers shall provide grace periods of at least 45 days for nonpayment of premium and waive any associated fees or charges. Such insurers also should not cancel policies for nonpayment of premium during that period, unless specifically directed to do so by the insured. Furthermore, the required notice periods are modified for the cancellation and nonrenewal of property and automobile policies during the state of emergency.
