On April 16, 2025, the West Virginia Office of the Insurance Commissioner (OIC) issued West Virginia Insurance Bulletin No. 25-02 regarding the use of aerial imagery by homeowners insurers.
The bulletin states that insurers should use due diligence when using aerial imagery and ensure that any action taken is based on accurate information. Additionally, the OIC provided other guidelines that insurers should keep in mind, including using other information along with the aerial images, notifying the insured and providing them with the aerial imagery, and ensuring the use of recent and accurate imagery.
