Alaska Requests Insurers to Provide Relief Following Storm

Sep 3, 2024 / by AAIS

On August 26, 2024, Alaska Governor Mike Dunleavy issued a disaster declaration following heavy rain and landslides in Ketchikan, activating the State Emergency Operations Plan. The Alaska Division of Insurance (AKDOI) issued Bulletin B24-10 to provide guidelines for insurers to follow.

The AKDOI is directing carriers to provide relief to affected policyholders by offering extended premium grace periods of at least two weeks to help limit policy cancellations for late payments. Carriers are also encouraged to work with policyholders for the collection of premiums.

Please see Bulletin B24-10 for more information. For any questions regarding the bulletin, please contact Sian Ng-Ashcraft, Property and Casualty Supervisor, at sian.ng-ashcraft@alaska.gov.
