Florida Issues Emergency Order Following Hurricane Helene

On September 30, 2024, the Florida Office of Insurance Regulation (FLOIR) issued Emergency Order 400385-24 following Hurricane Helene, outlining the steps that insurers must take to help policyholders in the affected counties. 

The emergency order extends certain grace periods and prohibits specified cancellation or nonrenewal of policies in impacted areas until November 26, 2024. The order also prohibits the cancellation or nonrenewal of a personal residential or commercial residential property insurance policy covering the outlined property damaged as a result of the hurricane for a period of 90 days after it has been repaired. Lastly, the order directs insurers to implement policies and procedures to ensure the efficient payment of claims.
