On June 17, 2025, the Maryland Insurance Administration (MIA) issued Bulletin 25-10 regarding cancellations, nonrenewals, and claim denials based on satellite and aerial imagery.
The MIA states that insurers may use satellite and aerial imagery as a basis for cancellation, nonrenewal, or claim denial only if the image provides a clear, accurate, and current view of the property. The MIA also encourages insurers to share and communicate with the insured about the satellite or aerial images before cancelling or nonrenewing policies based on the images.
Please see Bulletin 25-10 for more information. For any questions regarding the bulletin, please contact Kyle Lanasa, Executive Chief of Market Regulation, at kyle.lanasa@maryland.gov.
