For more than a year, COVID-19 has impacted the lives of millions, leaving a path of destruction in its wake. With more than 25 million cases in the US, nearly half a million dead, countless businesses closed and millions of people jobless without financial security, no one has been left unscathed. It has also raised significant issues for the insurance industry, particularly spurred by Business Interruption-related questions and litigation.

AAIS COVID-19 Pandemic Resource Center

In the midst of the pandemic, AAIS created the COVID-19 Pandemic Resource Center to provide insurance organizations with essential information and updates on multiple aspects of COVID-19, including litigation filings and outcomes, Department of Insurance (DOI) communications and regulatory and legislative updates from trade associations.

The Center is divided into two areas, Resource Tracking and Litigation Tracking.

Resource Tracking

The Resource Dashboard is an interactive feature, which provides users with state-by-state news and updates. Users can customize the type of graph shown and narrow their search by state, region, or to a group of selected states. The Resource Dashboard shows the current DOI Publication/Legislation Count, DOI Publications by state, data calls, pandemic and business preparedness/continuity plans, rating issues, and state coverage issues. The Dashboard also includes legislation counts and information with links to further details on specific actions.  

Litigation Tracking

The Litigation Tracking (Business Interruption) Dashboard includes a count of Business interruption complaints per month, total cases closed, cases defendants won, and cases plaintiffs won. It also shows a graph of cases filed, cases closed, and multi-district litigation, which users can zoom in on by month or day.  That dashboard also highlights the top 10 industry sectors impacted and tracks all industry sectors. Data can be easily sorted by state, case status, case number, plaintiffs, defendants, court types and more.
